Spanish

At Harris Primary Academy Purley Way, we believe in the importance of a language-rich environment and in the sharing of different languages around the academy. This is achieved by embedding languages and cultures in assemblies and on themed days such as ‘Diversity Day’, where this is celebrated. In Key Stage 2, every pupil participates in weekly Spanish lessons. This gives pupils the opportunity to read, speak and understand Spanish regularly as a class. Spanish lessons consist of exposure to specific new vocabulary and incorporating vocabulary pupils have previously learnt. This is achieved through modelling by the teacher, songs, games and activities all in the target language. We firmly believe that exposure to multiple languages and cultures is of the utmost importance in promoting well-rounded and tolerant adults within society - particularly in a diverse community such as ours.
